Vera’s experts conduct research and analysis and develop policies and programs in a variety of criminal and social justice fields. Their varied knowledge, background, and experience enable Vera to address the full spectrum of national and local justice issues.
Allison Hastings joined Vera in September 2006 and has worked on a number of projects focused on addressing sexual abuse in confinement settings. These projects include helping the National Prison Rape Elimination Commission develop its standards and final report, working with the Office on Violence Against Women to create a guide for correctional agencies on how to adapt the U.S. Department of Justice’s sexual assault forensic protocol, providing technical assistance to the National Prison Rape Elimination Act Resource Center, and working with the Office for Victims of Crime to establish a sexual assault response team for the Johnson County Department of Corrections in Kansas. Allison began her career in the criminal justice field at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where she worked for more than two years as a paralegal in the trial division. Before joining Vera, she worked as a senior research associate for the Justice Programs Office at American University. She holds a Master of Science in Justice, Law and Society from American University and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in English from Southern Methodist University.
